Kirk started playing music right after high school. He was led to Jesus by a good friend and great guitarist, Ty Tabor. He moved to Springfield, Missouri to play in a band with him in 1980. It just so happened that he met Greg X Volz while living there, as he was a friend of the guys in Kirk's band. Fast forward to 1986 when Greg tracked Kirk down in Mississippi to ask him to be a part of his new solo band, Pieces of Eight. He was thrilled to reconnect with Greg after his departure from Petra, and be a part of this new venture, so Kirk moved to Nashville, Tennessee in February of 1986, and they recorded “River is Rising.”

 

Kirk started attending Greg’s church, Bethel Chapel, and it was there that he met his wife Lesley. Lesley actually worked for Greg, so they got to spend a lot of time together. Kirk and Leslie were married ten months later, and began working for Leslie's father, Pastor Ray McCollum, serving as the youth pastors at his church.

 

Kirk eventually came into full time pastoral ministry at Bethel by 1988. He split his time serving at Bethel, doing studio guitar work, and playing guitar for Greg, but also such artists as Steve Green, Paul Smith, and Israel Houghton. By 1995, he was the Worship Pastor at Bethel, and eventually was sent to plant churches in Auckland, New Zealand and Melbourne, Australia, pastoring worship teams and reaching Chinese and Indonesian students for Christ. 

 

It was in 2001 that worship ministry brought Kirk to Mandeville, Louisiana at Church of the King. After many years of fruitful ministry there, Kirk went back to school, graduating with a Masters degree in Counseling. In 2017, he decided to leave employment with the church and open a private practice as a counselor. While he's grateful for the years of worship ministry at Church of the King, he's so excited to be serving and ministering in this new season with CPR. Kirk feels so privileged to be with these talented and gifted men. "The best is yet to come!"
